Dental Implants For Dentures

Dentures are unsecured prostheses. Upper and lower dentures can be painful, inconvenient and unstable. Upper jaw dentures can also be bulky, cause gagging and affect taste. Implants can be used to better secure a denture. They can also be used to make your upper jaw denture less bulky by removing the portion that covers the roof of your mouth. In general, there are two types of implant solutions for dentures:

1. Implants that function like buttons. These “buttons” clip on to your denture for better security. This is a popular option for the lower jaw and can be done with as few as two implants.
2. Implants connected with a bar. If additional strength is needed, your implants will be connected with a bar. Your denture then clips on to the bar for better security. This is typically done with four implants. This is a common solution for the upper jaw or if you have severe jaw bone loss and deterioration.
